ABOUT

The Euterpe Project offers a unique opportunity for flutists and composers to collaborate closely in shaping new works for the flute, guiding them from the initial idea to its final realization. This program embraces both the compositional and performance aspects of music creation, providing a platform for both composers and performers to grow through creative partnership.

Taking place in the inspiring scenery of Corfu, March 21st–26th, 2025, the in-person gathering will offer composers and flutists the chance to refine their works and enhance their performances. Alongside intensive rehearsals, participants will engage in workshops, masterclasses, interactive lectures, supervised rehearsals, discussions, and concerts—all designed to foster creative growth, deepen understanding of the music-making process, and strengthen interpretations.

The Euterpe Project is an Erasmus Blended Intensive Program, bringing together around 40 participants from across Europe. Five renowned European universities, spanning from the far north to the far south of the continent, have joined forces to make this initiative possible:

  • Ionian University – Music Department, Corfu (Hosting Institution, Greece)

  • Grieg Academy, Bergen (Norway)

  • Estonian Academy for Music and Theatre, Tallinn (Estonia)

  • Conservatorio statale di Musica Alfredo Casella, L´ Aquilla (Italy)

  • European University Cyprus, Nicosia

The journey began in December 2024, when 14 composers and 17 flutists paired up for virtual meetings. Over the course of several online sessions, participants, with optional support from teaching staff, engaged in discussions and exploratory try-outs. These early interactions aim to deepen both sides' understanding of the creative process while also exploring the possibilities and limits within the dynamic between the means and the people involved. By gaining insight into each other’s backgrounds, traits, and intentions, the hope is that this collaboration will strengthen the connection between the composer’s vision and the performer’s interpretation, paving the way for the in-person creative exchange in Corfu.

In terms of direct outcomes, this collaboration will ultimately result in 14 exciting new compositions for the flute, alongside equally captivating interpretations.

For all involved, The Euterpe Project is not just about creating new music for the flute—it’s a shared experience of discovery, collaboration, transformation, and hopefully, lasting relationships.
